Chronic Discomfort

Get to the root of your old problems and feel good again.

“In 2010, I had basically broken my back in a sledding accident. While sledding with my  family, I hit a bump really hard on my tailbone and that sent some reverberations up my spine, cracking my L4 through S1 vertebra. I had dealt with that pain for about 5 years until I had a rhizotomy where they went in and ablated certain nerves in my back because they were pinched. After that, it took a long time for me to heal enough to get to the point that I could do physical therapy to continue the healing process.

I am a generally healthy person but I have had chronic neck and back pain for the last 10 – 15 years. At the beginning of COVID, it started getting really aggravated. I was having trouble sitting for long periods of time at work. My low back was hurting so bad it was hard to walk, I couldn’t ride my bike, so my physical exercise routine was getting interrupted. I have been an active person all of my life but I had gotten to the point I couldn’t be anymore because it was too painful.

I had tried lots of other holistic therapeutic things to help – physical therapy, massage therapy, acupuncture, and acupressure – to try and help heal my back. I had done some chiropractic in the past but I didn’t really like it. I was a little scared of it, honestly, because of the manual adjustments.

I had also tried prolotherapy, where they inject a lidocaine and sugar water solution into the area that you are having trouble. After 3 sessions I couldn’t do it anymore because of how painful the treatments were after the lidocaine wore off.

I felt very frustrated with my body through all of it. I felt like nobody could find anything to help my body unwind. I would go to PT and they would help my low back but then my shoulder would get jacked up. One series of PT was to relieve tension in my neck and that triggered migraines. It was trial and error; we’d get my shoulder to be better and my low back would go out, we’d get my low back to be better then my shoulder would go out. It was years and years of this back and forth with no real progress forward.

In 2020 I hit the breaking point. I didn’t want to mess with it any more. I was so tired of always being in pain. I hit the wall as far as attempting to find something to help me feel better. I was starting to get depressed.

Someone I know recommended that I try coming here because of the gentle approach. I finally got to the point where I felt like I really needed to try something new.

Within 3-4 visits at WFC I could tell that something was changing in my body. I felt looser, more open. I wasn’t as reactive with my family, I was calmer. We were in a really stressful time, we were in the middle of a pandemic, everyone’s stress levels were high and this brought me down a few notches. My family would say more like 20 notches.

I have tried a lot of things and this is the one thing that I have really seen positive results.

Coming to Whole Family Chiropractic has opened things up for me, I am processing more anxiety right now but I think that’s part of this process of release. There was trauma in my body in the places that were tight and locked up.  They are now finally letting go.

After the first few times that I came, every time I left I cried. Every. Single. Time. For about the first 5-6 weeks, after getting adjusted I’d drive home and just bawl. After I cried, I would feel better. On my drive home the colors of everything felt more vivid.

My husband and kids have noticed that I am more calm, more patient, gentler to myself, kinder.

I have noticed that I am more patient with my mom who is quite elderly. It is exhausting being around her. She is very demanding because she can’t take care of herself anymore, and has a lot of emotions wrapped around that. I am now able to keep myself positive through her anxiety and sadness. Especially over the winter when it was really hard, I wasn’t exhausted when I got home from visiting her. Her health has been failing for 10 years and this is the first time I didn’t  take on her baggage when I go to visit her.

I feel like there is a lot of good in the world and I have a better attitude about life. Even through the winter, which I hate, I am much more positive about things. My attitude overall has improved because I feel better physically. I am more comfortable. I am no longer fighting my shoulder, my neck, and my back. I feel like I can just be, as a person, rather than anxious about what is going to happen next.

Care at WFC is much more whole body focused than anything else I have tried. A lot of the things I had tried in the past focused on one thing (low back, shoulder, neck). This is a gentle, nerve-based approach, changing the way the inner function of the body works. They care about helping your body as a whole; your emotional life, your physical life, how you’re doing/feeling that day. The people here are very kind and caring which is really nice.

Sometimes it is hard to tell people about what they do because it is so different from other offices. When I talk to people, I tell them that it is an “inside out” rather than “outside in” approach. People don’t realize some of the benefits this practice can give them. There are benefits far and beyond what is on the surface.

Healing From Chronic Discomfort Webinar (14 minutes)

Do you feel stuck in your healing? Having long-standing back or neck issues can be frustrating, exhausting, and create a feeling of hopelessness. If you feel plateaued, we understand.

Many of our practice members come to us after trying so much – medication, PT, acupuncture, massage, yoga, other styles of chiropractic, etc. However, because we look at how the nervous system stores stress, we can often find the overlooked root of the problem. By identifying where the body is holding onto old areas of stress, we can help the body heal and get back on track.

Remember the last time you had a cut, a bruise, or a broken bone…what happened? It healed, of course! Having aches and pains that linger for years can occur when something is preventing your body from healing. We look for areas of stress in the body that have been missed. By clearing out those areas and restoring function, we allow your body to heal itself.
